Save the cake (or not)

Traditionally, couples save the top tier of their wedding cake to eat on their one year anniversary. This tradition dates back to the 19th century where newlyweds saved the top tier of their wedding cake for the christening of their first child. These days couples tend to wait much longer to have children and therefore have adapted the tradition.

While you definitely can save your cake, it is not necessary. June Poppies would love to make your anniversary cake at a discounted rate! Our brides often tell us that they were not able to taste a flavor or two and they opt to have their fresh cake made with the flavor they missed.

If you decide to save your top tier here are some instructions on how to wrap and store it to get the best possible outcome – No one likes freezer burn!

·      Refrigerate your cake in the box for at least 1 hour.

·      Completely wrap refrigerated cake in food-safe plastic wrap 2-3 times.

·      Wrap plastic wrapped cake in aluminum foil. Make sure it is completely wrapped.

·      Place in air-tight container and freeze.

We love hearing from our couples! Often, we receive updates on their first year together – new house, dog, baby on the way, travels, etc. WE ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!! Keep them coming!
